Panthenol (Vitamin B5)
Evidence types available
A provitamin of pantothenic acid (B5) that penetrates the skin and converts to pantothenic acid, where it supports cellular metabolism, wound healing, and barrier repair. One of the most well-tolerated skincare ingredients across all skin types, including reactive and compromised skin. Acts as a humectant, drawing moisture to the skin surface; also has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties in human studies. Commonly used at 1–5% in moisturisers and barrier creams. A genuinely multi-functional ingredient with a strong tolerability profile — one of the few actives that is almost universally well-received.
